It was an adventurous Christmas for the DeBoer Clan. We spent this Christmas in Colorado Springs with Amy's family. Unfortunately, we were supposed to fly into Denver during the crazy storm that hit. So we were bumped and cancelled and rescheduled for several days. We finally were able to get a flight from Grand Rapids to Dallas where we rented a car to make the 12 hour drive to Colorado Springs. Miraculously, we ended up on a standby list in Dallas for a direct flight to Co. Springs. There were nine people on the standby list, so we were doubtful we'd make it (from our fifty calls to American Airlines, we knew that all the flights in to Colorado were booked). By God's mercy, exactly NINE people missed the flight and we boarded at the last minute! Praise the Lord! A 12 hour drive would have been a interesting adventure with a nine-month-old!
Amy's family all gathered in Colorado Springs. It was the first time we were all together since Colleen & Johnny's wedding last January! Joel was, of course, spoiled like crazy! He loved playing with his toys and eating & crinkling the wrapping paper. He impressed the family with his walking skills. (He comes from a long line geniuses on both sides...so we're not surprised at his advanced skills!!) It was a great visit for everyone. We only wish we all lived closer together!! (Note to family: Get your butts within a 200 mile radius of Kalamazoo, Michigan!!)
The celebrating continued with parties with Curt's family. Joel was once again showered with toys and books and gifts! We had a great evening at Dad & Pam's newly remodeled farmhouse. Everything looked beautiful, and it was a great night together as a family. The Knight family gathered the following morning for yet another Christmas party. Do I even have to mention that we played plenty of games?? We even learned a new dice game which was a ton of fun. Joel was an all-star with the crazy schedule we've had him on. Time changes and late nights still make for a happy baby with this little guy. We love him so much!
We hope you all had a wonderful holiday!
